Saturday Night AFL in Round 14 heads to heart of Australia where Melbourne and St Kilda do battle from Traeger Park in Alice Springs.

There's not a lot of room for error now with the Demons likely needing to win all of their remaining matches to play finals in 2020. It's equally important for the Saints if they want to stay in touch with the top four.

Melbourne Form & Team News

Melbourne currently sit in 10th position on the AFL Ladder with six wins and six losses recorded so far in 2020.

They hit a stumbling block in Round 13 in a bid for four successive victories where a disappointing second half saw the Western Bulldogs prevail by 28 points.

Melbourne vs St Kilda Match Up

The market suggests it's close to a 50-50 encounter despite St Kilda clearly being the better of two teams so far in 2020. Melbourne have been flattered by a recent three game winning stretch against low rated oppostion.

The Demons looked in control of last week's contest against the Bulldogs at half-time before conceding six goals in the third quarter with some lacklustre defensive efforts from their midfield allowing their opposition to reign supreme.

They likely get star ruckman and captain Max Gawn back for Saturday which is a huge inclusion for the Demons as the most dominant tap ruck in the competition. He'll team up with an in-form group of Jack Viney, Clayton Oliver and the powerful Christian Petracca to give the Demons first use of the ball regularly.

St Kilda will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing two point loss to the Lions last week and with that, spark their running and attacking style which hasn't been quite as strong of late.

The big expanses of Traeger Park should suit the Saints and the dry but warm condtions should see them kicking a big score and ending the 2020 finals aspirations of Melbourne.

Verdict

We're expecting the Saints to bring their attacking brand. If the Demons look to match that, there should be a good overall score recorded in perfect conditions.

Steven May and Jake Lever will be putting plenty of time into Max King and co aerially, which could mean in-form small forward Dan Butler gets loose.
