Melbourne Demons vs Geelong Cats Tips

Melbourne are 3-0 after beating Fremantle Dockers, St Kilda and GWS Giants, while Geelong failed against Adelaide Crows before luckily winning against Brisbane Lions and scraping home against Hawthorn.

Arguably the Cats could be 0-3 if things had not fallen their way. I am tipping the Demons to keep up their form that they have kicked off this season with.

  • Melbourne Demons are undefeated in 2021 with a 3-0 record.
  • Melbourne have not lost by any more than 3 points in that period in the last 3 meetings at the MCG.
  • Geelong Cats are 2-1 for the season after winning their last 2 matches.

Head-to-Head

Geelong hold their recent head-to-head count 6-1. Two of those victories were by three points, so they haven't dominated the Demons as much as the figures suggest.

Melbourne Demons Form

The Demons have had the perfect start to 2021 with three wins next to their name and sitting atop of the ladder alongside of Sydney Swans and the Western Bulldogs.

Geelong will be their toughest test thus far into the season as two of the three sides they have played are certainly bottom half of the ladder sides having beaten Fremantle Dockers, St Kilda and GWS Giants.

They now have a side full of enough youth to keep them lively, especially down forward while they still have the likes of Christian Petracca and Sam May.

Melbourne Demons Team News

The big news for the Demons is the return of Ben Brown and Sam Weideman to the VFL this weekend, and they will likely be available over the next fortnight.

With no new injuries, Melbourne will go into Sunday's match with a strong side. Jake Melsham comes in as the only change.

Geelong Cats Form

Geelong are the very interesting team at the moment after faring incredibly well over the trade period, they are yet to live up to being the powerhouse side we know they could be.

Having lost their opening game to the Crows, they got away with one against Brisbane Lions two rounds ago and hung on for dear life last week against the Hawks after dominating the match.

This is a match many will be expecting them to win, but at the MCG recent history says different.

Geelong Cats Team News

Eyes were on Jeremy Cameron for this week, but he is still likely one week out from making his Geelong debut.

Shaun Higgins is their new injury absentee after an early hamstring injury last week.

Sam Menegola returns to add a major ball winner throughout their midfield, with Zach Guthrie and Brad Close the other ins.
