Lance Franklin injures hamstring at training

The Sydney Swans will be sweating on the availability of star forward Lance Franklin ahead of next month's season restart after he limped off the training track on Wednesday morning.

The 33-year-old will have a scan on his right hamstring tomorrow to determine the extent of the damage. The injury casts fresh doubt over whether Franklin will be fit to play in the Swans' clash against Essendon at the SCG on June 14 after also missing the team's nail-biting win over Adelaide in round 1.
Sydney Swans General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner said via the club's website that it’s too early to know the extent of the injury.

“Lance hadn’t been participating in contact training this week as we have been gradually building his training load,” Gardiner said.

“He was doing some routine running drills at Lakeside Oval this morning when he experienced pain in his hamstring, which is clearly a concern.

“We won’t know the extent of the injury until we have the results of the scan, but it’s a disappointing setback for Lance as he had been progressing well in his preparation for round 2.”
