For the first time in almost a decade the Indigenous All Stars will take the field to play the Fremantle Dockers in a pre-season exhibition match.
The Dockers are favourites to win the game but I expect the gravity of the occasion and the electrifying scoring ability to propel the All Stars to a short margin of victory.
Some of the biggest and most exciting names in the AFL will take to the field in this matchup including Charlie Cameron, Kysaiah Pickett, Bobbie Hill, Liam Ryan and Jason Horne-Francis. The team will be captained by Freo legend Michael Walters with fellow Dockers teammate and original captain Alex Pearce ruled out with injury.
The Dockers were one of the surprise packets of last season, leading the competition for a number of weeks before capitulating and losing their last 4 games straight, missing out on finals footy by 2 competition points. Caleb Serong finished 4th in Brownlow voting with team mate Andy Brayshaw finishing 13th.
The Indigenous squad has taken a hit to their backline with both Alex Pearce and Liam Jones ruled out but Freo will have their own problems trying to stop the attacking force that their opponents possess.
Being a pre-season hitout means there will be opportunities to move the ball against sluggish defence so we can expect a high scoring game. Both teams will be able to get scoring opportunities which I believe will be converted often.
