Hawthorn vs West Coast Eagles Tips

Hawthorn and West Coast will face off on Sunday afternoon at the MCG, the ground away from home that suits West Coast the most.

Hawthorn come into the match after a flogging last week from St Kilda, while West Coast went back to Perth and put away Fremantle in the WA Derby. The Eagles are tipped to cover the line in Melbourne.

  • Hawthorn have lost 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • West Coast Eagles have won 3 of their last 4 matches against Hawthorn
  • West Coast Eagles have won 15 of their last 20 day matches
  • West Coast Eagles have traded wins and losses all season

Head to Head

West Coast have a 3-1 head to head edge over Hawthorn from the last four meetings, with the last clash at Optus Stadium last year heading the way of the Eagles 81-49.

Their last meeting at the MCG was in 2017 where Hawthorn came away 50-point winners in what was a dominant display in the second and fourth quarters.

Hawthorn Form

The Hawthorn are not in the best of form and could easily be zero and seven had Essendon (round one) and Adelaide (round six) not put on the handbrakes after leading by substantial amounts in those matches.

Last week Hawthorn were massacred 128-59 by St Kilda, who are as inconsistent as they come.

The Hawks did do enough the week prior to turn a five goal deficit margin into a three-point victory with a late comeback in Tasmania against the Adelaide Crows.

Hawthorn Team News

Chad Wingard is a welcome in for the Hawks after injury, but Jaeger O'Meara remains out.

Jon Ceglar is likely to return quicker than expected which is positive news for the Hawks, but he isn't named for the clash with the Eagles.

Tim O'Brien is ruled out with injury and Dylan Moore is given a rest. Daniel Howe and Michael Hartley come in.

West Coast Eagles Form

The Eagles continue to be a force to be reckoned with at home, but they have been a lot weaker when playing away all season and are yet to win on the road.

West Coast defeated the Fremantle Dockers 132-73 in the derby last week, but were thumped 136-39 on their last trip out of Perth to face Geelong Cats.

They play the MCG quite well, a ground they have not seen this season when away, so maybe this is their big chance to win away.

West Coast Eagles Team News

The Eagles have suffered a blow with Liam Duggan ruled out for at least a month due to a knee injury. Nathan Vardy is also out of the clash with Hawthorn.

In come Brendon Ah Chee and Bailey Williams.

Mark Hutchings and Tom Barass are not risked this week despite closing in on returns.

Jeremy McGovern, Liam Ryan and Shannon Hurn are all still one to two weeks away from returning to the side.
