The Suns and Dons are certainly not in career best form and come into this match off similar profiles...who will get the points at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday.

Both teams have only won one game in their last six matches, both against Sydney. Both suffered heartbreaking losses last week that could very well have been wins had each played a strong final quarter.

Essendon's injury list is growing, especially after Jacob Townsend suffered concussion last week, so their forward line is looking worse for wear heading into this.

Gold Coast Form & Team News

The Suns looked incredibly promising to start the season with number one draft pick Matt Rowell arguably leading the Brownlow after four rounds, but after he suffered his shoulder injury against Geelong they have not been the same.

Izak Rankine put on a magic show last week, taking a huge mark and kicking a crucial goal in the final term to keep them in the hunt, but that was still not enough to get them over the line.

We are still waiting for the debut of Sam Flanders, who could take his place this week and add some grunt to their midfield and forward line.

Essendon Form & Team News

The Bombers could be a top eight side with the likes of Hooker and Stringer back in the line up.

Either of these players are genuine superstars, but Stringer gives the side a tall target down forward and Hooker is the swing man who is as solid as a rock down back and up forward.

They lacked goal kickers against GWS last week, throwing away a big lead in the third and fourth quarters.

While they have no goal kickers in their forward lin, Essendon are going to struggle to beat sides which is why we are tipping the Suns on top.

Gold Coast vs Essendon Head To Head

Essendon hold a strong record over Gold Coast, beating them in the last four clashes. But they have not been one sided affairs.

Their last match was in July last year, where Hooker and Stringer kicked two goals to put them 10 points in front late in the match.

Neither of those matchwinners will be playing on Wednesday, so does that mean Gold Coast look the stronger side heading into this match off similar profiles?

Gold Coast vs Essendon Betting Odds

Gold Coast are the favourites heading into the match, quoted at $1.71 while the Dons are $2.15 outsiders.

The line has been set at -4.5 for the Suns.

Gold Coast vs Essendon Match Up

The possible match up of Ben Ainsworth and Adam Saad looks exciting.

Both players are barometers for their club, and Ainsworth showed why last week he is one of their highly credentialed players, creating contests all over the ground and ensuring that his side gets every opportunity in their forward 50m.

Saad is a running machine off the half back line, often getting the hands off and running through the guts of the ground to send his side forward.

If Ainsworth can play a similar role to last week, their strong forwards will have plenty of opportunities to kick goals.
