Gold Coast hosts the Blues in the NT on Friday night in a match that could determine which team may be playing finals football this season.

The Suns have lost four of their last five matches, with the other being a draw, and desperately need to win to keep the dream alive.

Carlton, on the other hand, are building quite well, beating Fremantle after the siren last week. They will be expected to carry that form into this.

Gold Coast Form & Team News

Gold Coast looked to have a world of potential during the early stages of the season, but have slumped through these middle stages and that will dent their confidence heading into this crucial match.

They are not playing poor footy by any means, but their issue is simply experience during clutch moments of the match. That was the case in the third quarter against Richmond on Monday, as the Tigers ran away with the match.

Carlton Form & Team News

Carlton are lurking and it is as simple as that.

They are the side that are on the fringe of the finals and looking as if they can potentially do some damage when playing their best footy, as we saw against Port Adelaide with only an after-the-siren kick beating them.

They found a way last week against Fremantle with their own winner after the siren, and will be much cleaner with the footy in the better weather this week.

If Carlton can get an early lead, they will be incredibly hard to beat.

Gold Coast vs Carlton Head To Head

Carlton marginally edge the head to head record from recent head to heads at 3-2. The latest meeting came in July last year and went the way of the Blues.

Based purely on the vein of form that both sides are in, we expect the Blues to keep a margin on the Suns and hold them at bay as they march towards the top eight.

Gold Coast vs Carlton Betting Odds

Carlton are the short priced favourites at $1.50 while the Suns are $2.60 outsiders.

The line has been set for Carlton at -10.5.

Gold Coast vs Carlton Match Up

The key match up is likely to be in the contested scenarios in the middle of the ground between Patty Cripps and Touk Miller.

Miller is not a tagger by nature, but when given a role, he is very good at it. He gives away stature to Cripps, but hardness at the ball is where he can match with the great man.

Cripps is a superstar and although has not had the impact we normally see due to hard tags, he gets a great chance to find his own footy here.

Carlton are up in confidence and with Cripps likely not to receive his normal tag, he can unleash and push his side over the line as we have seen in the past.

  • Carlton's Sam Walsh has kicked 1+ goals in four of his last five matches.
  • Noah Anderson has recorded 15+ disposals in each of Gold Coasts last four matches.
