Gold Coast Suns vs Western Bulldogs Tips

A rare stumble by the Bulldogs saw them lose the top spot. The Dogs now travel to the Gold Coast where the Suns have risen from the brink of collapsing.

Although the Suns do boast a two-game winning streak, this is their toughest challenge yet to keep final aspirations alive. The Dogs are tipped to bounce back.

  • Gold Coast Suns have won 2 of the last 6 matches at Metricon Stadium.
  • Western Bulldogs have won 7 of the last 8 matches against Gold Coast Suns.
  • Western Bulldogs 118-56 against Gold Coast Suns earlier this season.
  • Western Bulldogs won 51-46 the last time they played at Metricon Stadium against Gold Coast Suns.

Head to Head

In Round 5, Western Bulldogs comfortably beat Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium by 62 points.

Gold Coast have struggled to beat the Bulldogs in recent history, losing seven of the last eight matches.

Gold Coast Suns Form

The Suns have won two games in a row for only the second time this season, and it has put them back in the discussion for a first-ever finals spot.

The odds are against coach Stuart Dew's men but the Suns have turned up the heat and kept matches on their terms in recent weeks.

They beat Richmond Tigers 77-67 and won a thriller against GWS Giants last 65-64.

Gold Coast are on top of the competition in tackles and second in marks, underlining just how strong their defence has been.

Gold Coast Suns Team News

Tackling superstar Hugh Greenwood will miss the rest of the season with a MCL injury he sustained against the Giants last week.

Oleg Markov and Sam Day are also ruled out of Saturday's game with injuries.

Noah Anderson is rushed back into the side, as he has recovered from a broken hand.

Tall Josh Corbett is also selected with the Suns targeting a height advantage in the forward line.

Caleb Graham also comes back into the Gold Coast side.

Western Bulldogs Form

The Bulldogs fell to the Sydney Swans last Saturday 79-60. It was the Dogs' fourth loss for the season, and they once again lost top spot.

Surprisingly, the Western Bulldogs have never finished a VFL/AFL season on top of the ladder with the minor premiership.

It is an achievement that, surely, they would like to achieve in 2021 and they will need to bounce back at the Suns.

The Dogs are still incredible in the midfield statistics including being on top of the competition in clearances and disposal efficiency.

Western Bulldogs Team News

Midfield star Josh Dunkley, who was one of the top performers against the Suns in Round 5, returns after shoulder surgery.

Aaron Naughton has fulfilled his concussion protocols and is recalled along with Hayden Crozier and Roarke Smith.

Number 1 draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan played his first game last week and retains his place despite the return of Naughton.

Tom Liberatore is given a rest this week, while Anthony Scott, Lewis Young, Mitch Hannan and Mitch Wallis are all omitted.

Verdict

The Dogs are yet to lose back-to-back games this season, so expect a reaction. The Suns need to pull of a huge upset win to have a chance to play finals, but they don't have a favourable record against the Dogs.

The Bulldogs are tipped to win by 1-39.
