Gold Coast Suns vs Sydney Swans Tips

Gold Coast and Sydney clash at Metricon Stadium where the Swans have had the far greater record in recent encounters, taking out all five clashes at the venue.

The Swans did suffer their first loss of the season last week at the hands of the GWS Giants by just two points, while Gold Coast were easily accounted for against the Dogs last week. This should be a one-sided affair with Sydney to cover the handicap.

  • Sydney Swans have lost 1 of their 5 matches this season.
  • Sydney Swans have won their last 5 maches at Metricon Stadium against Gold Coast Suns.
  • Sydney have covered the line in 6 of their last 7 day matches.
  • Gold Coast Suns have lost 7 of their last 8 matches.

Sydney Swans hold a 10-2 head-to-head record, although two of the last three clashes have gone the way of the Gold Coast Suns.

That includes the sole meeting between the sides last season at the SCG where Gold Coast came away nearly six goal winners.

It is hard to ignore the the record of Sydney at Metrion when playing the Suns though, with the Swans winning all five at the venue.

Gold Coast Suns Form

The Suns are 1-4 for the season and, even at this stage, are on track to not feature in the finals series once again.

They were accounted for ever so comfortably last week against the Western Bulldogs which was expected. It was a comprehensive 118-56 loss for the Suns.

Gold Coast also lost to Adelaide Crows 95-85 in Round 3 and Carlton 70-59 in Round 4.

Gold Coast Suns Team News

Charlie Ballard and Sean Lemmens are both named to play on Saturday after coming through the main training session without any recurrence of injuries.

Sydney Swans Form

The Swans currently sit 4-1 after seeing their unbeaten record last weekend when losing to the GWS Giants.

Sydney could easily be 5-0 for the campaign having fallen agonisingly short to the Giants, who came from 10 points down with four minutes remaining to win the Sydney derby.

The Swans' issue now is their injury list which is as deep as the Atlantic Ocean with the likes of Lance Franklin, Isaac Heeney, Tom Hickey and Dane Rampe all among the absentees.

We know their young guns are excitement machines and clearly the best of the first year players playing AFL now, but the Swans need regular performances without experienced bodies.

Sydney Swans Team News

Buddy Franklin is the latest injury to the Swans list after suffering a groin injury last week. He is now likely to miss a month of footy.

Tom Hickey was having an outstanding season, but has suffered a knee injury which will see him miss around two months of footy. Tom McCartin is also ruled out with injury.

Defender Dane Rampe is still up to three weeks away, but Isaac Heeney is a surprise inclusion after recovering from a broken hand.

Kaiden Brand, Callum Sinclair, James Rowbottom and Hayden McLean are also recalled by the Swans with Logan McDonald, Braden Campbell and Dylan Stephens left out.
