Geelong have fallen off a cliff over the past month, but in hindsight it is no surprise considering their competition, however, the Cats did give their fans hope after beating the Blues in Round 7, which was the last win.
Geelong won their first 7 games of the year, although six of them were against teams that are not currently in the top-eight and the seventh was Carlton who occupy the final spot above the bracket. Their last 4 games have been against three teams in the top-five and a match in tough Darwin conditions against the tenth-placed Suns, losing all encounters.
The Cats almost snatched victory from the Giants last week, pulling back a 31-point third quarter deficit to take the lead in the fourth but couldn’t hold on, eventually going down 78-74.

It was a better response from Richmond last week who took the second-placed Bombers to the brink of their third loss of the season, as Essendon only kicked clear with 10 minutes left in the final term.
The Tigers showed that they can be competitive after being dusted by a combined 210 points in the past two matches. Adem Yze’s troops even took the lead in the third quarter and had a chance to get the upset, kicking the first four behinds of the final term which could have seen them move in front if they could have found their accuracy.
The reality is though, the Tigers have just one shock win against the Swans to their name in what has been a more dismal 2024 than expected.
