Fremantle Dockers vs GWS Giants Tips

With both sides arriving off Round 1 losses, the last match of Round 2 on Sunday looms as important battle between Fremantle and GWS.

Following a competitive last half of the 2020 season, more is expected of the Dockers this year while despite losing key players in the off season, the Giants still have a host of match winners on their list.

In a tough game to call, Nat Fyfe on the disposal count is the play.

  • GWS Giants have won their last two matches against Fremantle Dockers in Perth.
  • Fremantle Dockers' Nat Fyfe has recorded 25 or more disposals in his last 4 games against the GWS Giants (excluding the shortened games in 2020).

Head to Head

From their last 10 clashes, it sits even at five wins a piece.

GWS Giants defeated Fremantle Dockers by 38 points in Round 14 last year, which was the last time these two sides met.

Fremantle Dockers Form

Fremantle disappointed in a flat Round 1 performance against Melbourne and will be looking to create a fortress once again in Perth, a home advantage they'll need to make most of if a finals tilt is on the cards.

The Dockers have adopted a tight and defensive approach under coach Justin Longmuir, a game plan that we saw blossom at the back-end of last year.

Despite injuries to much of their key defence over the last few seasons, the Dockers have still been able to develop a good young midfield to support their superstar Nat Fyfe.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Joel Hamling, Liam Henry, Alex Pearce and Tobe Watson are all ruled out through injury, while Connor Blakely drops down to the emergencies.

In come Heath Chapman, Sean Darcy, Michael Frederick and Nathan Wilson.

GWS Giants Form

The Giants lost some key players in the off season, notably the exit of key forward Jeremy Cameron. While their depth is questionable, there's no doubting the top end on their list are still elite.

GWS arguably should have beaten St Kilda last Sunday, but lost what was a tight slog in the wet 86-78. Their ability to back-up seven days later under the hot Perth sun will be a challenge.

A well skilled line-up when on song, they'll be looking to hurt the defensive Dockers on the outside this Sunday.

GWS Giants Team News

Zach Sproule is named in the starting line-up for the Giants, while Brent Daniels comes into the interchange bench.

Tom Green, Connor Idun and Xavier O’Halloran make way.

Verdict

Too tough to call from a head to head perspective, but Nat Fyfe is tipped to keep his good record against GWS going.

The Giants can stretch the smaller back line of the Dockers which gives Harrison Himmelberg a good chance to kick a score.
