The Dons host the Giants at Metricon Stadium on Friday night, a do or die match for both sides.

Both stuck on five wins and in an awkward position on the ladder, both could very easily slide out of the top eight if they are to lose.

GWS come into this match in the better form, winning there last two games and looking for three on the trot while Essendon were beaten by the Lions last week.

Essendon Form & Team News

They were extremely poor against the Lions last week where they were simply outclassed and really did lack a power forward who can take a grab.

They desperately need Fantasia and Stringer back in the side, the latter especially being that big target down forward which allows the like of Tipungwuti to get the crumb rather than lead as a tall.

GWS Form & Team News

The Giants look to be on a confidence march, winning their last two games, beating The Suns comfortably last week and the flying Tigers the week previous.

These are important wins at this part of the season, where the ladder is so condensed, every win for this teams means they are keeping their spot in the eight.

Callan Ward is set to return to the side, but Matt de Boer and Toby Greene will both miss with hamstring injuries.

Essendon vs GWS Head To Head

It has been a close tussle between both sides, where GWS hold a 3-2 record from their last five clashes, with the last clash in June last year going the way of the Dons by one goal.

GWS look to be in the much better form that the Dons so expect this record to read 4-1 by the end of the night.

Essendon vs GWS Betting Odds

The Giants are short priced favourites at $1.39 whereas Essendon are the clear outsiders at $3.

The line has been set for the Giants at -14.5.

Essendon vs GWS Match Up

The key match up heading into this match could be between Jeremy Cameron and Michael Hurley.

Cameron is one of the hardest working forwards in the competition, but will meet his match with one of the workman defenders on him in Hurley.

Cameron is probably not recognised for the footy he is playing at the moment, working hard and creating contests all over the ground, almost playing a wingman like role.

Hurley lacks no experience in big games and this is not short of that in retrospect to their season.

Hurley will likely keep his line across half back and look to chop off the ball is Cameron does head up the ground for an early kick.

Essendon vs GWS Key Stats

  • Jeremy Cameron has kicked 2+ goals in five of his last six matches
  • Josh Kelly has kicked one goal in each of his last three games
  • Harry Perryman has recorded 20+ disposals in each of his last three interstate matches
