Essendon vs Fremantle Tips & Betting Preview

Essendon will kick off their 2020 campaign when they host the Fremantle Dockers at Marvel Stadium this Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers form has really fluctuated in recent seasons where despite having a host of dangerous players and historically a powerful running game in that time, they've struggled for consistency but a more measured nature was seen this pre-season.

Fremantle look set for another rebuilding phase and they'll be heavily reliant on Brownlow Medalist Nat Fyfe carrying a list through that looks to lack firepower up front and is devoid of class down back.

Essendon vs Fremantle Betting Odds

Essendon are the clear and deserving favourites at $1.47 to defeat Fremantle.

Early in the season can always be a little tricky for line or margin betting but the -14.5 is expected to be covered by the Bombers.

Essendon vs Fremantle Match Up

Michael Walters is a very classy small forward for the Dockers but aside from him there's little x-factor with the taller options in Rory Lobb, Cam McCarthy and Matt Taberner being quite one-dimensional and very reliant on good delivery from a midfield that lacks depth.

Whilst Essendon don't exactly have a gun big focal point in their front half, mobile and creative players such as Jake Stringer, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Devon Smith and Orazio Fantasia make them harder to match up on and predict for the opposition defence.

Both sides are quite inconvenienced on an injury front with key outs for the Bombers that include Joe Daniher, Dyson Heppell and Cale Hooker while the Dockers will need to get through without the services of David Mundy, Joel Hamling and Alex Pearce.
