Collingwood vs Geelong Cats Tips

Collingwood and Geelong lock horns at the MCG on Saturday afternoon where the Cats are short priced favourites.

Collingwood had every opportunity to punish Port Adelaide last week, but again came up short in what has been a grim season thus far.

Geelong have bounced back in recent weeks, recording their third win on the trot last week against Gold Coast.

  • Geelong Cats have won 9 of their last 10 matches in Victoria.
  • Collingwood have only won 2 of their 10 matches this season.
  • Geelong Cats won by 68 points in the last head-to-head in the finals last year.

Head to Head

Geelong lead their recent head to head record 4-2 after destroying Collingwood last year by more than 11 goals in a 100-32 victory in the finals.

Collingwood had won the home and away season fixture 57-35.

Collingwood Form

The Pies list is still better than many teams in the AFL system, but they have some serious problems mounting up.

Collingwood have won just the two of their 10 matches this season and can't seem to hold a lead.

They lost another match in the last quarter last week against Port Adelaide, going down 59-58 in heartbreaking fashion. A win could have arguably turned their frowns upside down.

If the Pies can play four quarters of footy and compete early, then they would be a chance. But we simply have not seen this from them all season.

Collingwood Team News

Beau McCeery was scanned during the week and has pulled his calf so he will miss up to a fortnight of footy.

Callum Brown, Taylor Adams and Josh Thomas have also been ruled out through injury.

Trent Bianco has been handed an AFL debut and Brayden Sier and Jack Madgen also come in for the Magpies.

Jamie Elliot is only a fortnight away from coming back and will be a boost for the Pies.

Geelong Cats Form

Geelong looked a little off their game around a month ago, unconvincingly beating North Melbourne and losing to the Sydney Swans.

But the Cats have bounced back hard with wins against Richmond Tigers, St Kilda and Gold Coast Suns 91-57 last week.

Jeremy Cameron has been instrumental to their resurgence down forward, while both Isaac Smith and Shaun Higgins have played big parts too.

With Patrick Dangerfield still to come back into the side, Geelong are beginning to start their upwards trajectory towards finals.

Geelong Cats Team News

Geelong will see one of the best players in the competition return to the side in three weeks with Patrick Dangerfield closing in on a return.

Mitch Duncan will miss this week due to concussion protocols, while Cam Guthrie is out with a shoulder injury. Max Holmes comes in.
