A top 4 finish can certainly be possible for Carlton this season, however, the expectation will be on their shoulders this season, unlike last year where they overachieved. If the Blues stay healthy and can get service to the big guys up front, they can certainly push for a premiership.

What’s to like

If you could have the best two power forwards inside your attacking 50 you would take it everyday of the week, and that is where the blues biggest strength lies. Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay are both Coleman Medalists and if they can coexist and both reach max at their full potential the AFL and its fans are in for a treat.

For the Carlton forwards to do that they need the service and they get that from the engine room that is Patric Cripps, Sam Walsh and Adam Cerra.  The Blues midfield balances their attack and ball movement with stingy defence that pins their opposition in their own half, applying the theory of the best defence is a good offence.

What’s NOT to like

Health can be an issue for any club but the news of Jack Silvagni’s ACL injury has started Carlton’s season on the wrong foot and losing a little depth in the offseason may come back to bite them.

Carlton will also need to be better to adapt when things drift off the game plan and quick decisions and ball movement are needed. The Blues failed to convert on their turnovers last season and will need to improve in that department. Getting a little more out of ruckman Tom De Koning will also be vital to their success in 2024.
