AFL Premiership Betting News: Tigers second favourite for flag

After an indifferent start to the 2019 season the Richmond Tigers have hit top gear and the online bookmakers are winding their odds in by the week.

The Tigers have surged in premiership betting
Richmond is the $4.50 second favourites at BetEasy for the 2019 AFL Premiership after recording a fourth-straight win on Saturday afternoon.

The top of the table Geelong ($4.20) is the only team at a shorter price for the flag.

The Tigers were back to their ruthless best, defeating Port Adelaide by a comfortable 38-point margin at the MCG. The win took them to fifth place on the ladder with a crunch game against Collingwood coming on Friday night which could determine who finishes inside the top-4.

Richmond will enter Friday night as $1.54 favourites with our trusted online bookmakers and will draw level on points with the second placed Brisbane Lions if they can overcome the Magpies.

It all seems to be coming together at the right time for Richmond.

The Tigers welcomed back All-Australian forward Jack Riewoldt into the side to complement star recruit Tom Lynch. The pair had a day out against the Power on Saturday, combining for six goals in just their fourth game together.

In an ominous warning to the rest of the competition, Tigers coach Damien Hardwick believes the dynamic duo are still working out the best way to play together.

"I'm not sure how they went from a goal-scoring point of view but they both looked dangerous at various stages and once we started to spot them up on the lead, I thought they worked really well together," Hardwick said.

"They're only a couple of games in, really, so they're going to get better along the way and they'll work in unison a bit more."

The other form team of the competition has been Essendon, which has won six of its past seven games.

After dropping the opening two games of the season and drifting out to a price of $6.50 just to make the eight the Bombers are rolling and now look destined for the finals.

The Dons sit two games clear of the ninth-placed Port Adelaide and are currently at the $1.10 price via Bet365 to hold their position inside the final eight.

Bombers coach John Worsfold lauded his team's ability to close the gap between their best and worst as the home and away season enters the latter stages.

"Honestly, I don't look at the ladder regularly," Worsfold said.

"I look at how we want to play the game and how we can keep improving, that is my focus ... (and) if you look at the way we're playing our footy over the last six or seven weeks, we're seeing more and more consistency."
