The AFL returns in 2024 for another bone-crunching season, with all of the best players and teams jostling to win the Grand Final.

With the season heating up, the Sydney Swans arrive as the favourites to top the ladder in 2024 at $1.02 with Betfair, with the side fancied to build on last season.

The Swans are the favourites to top the ladder in 2024 at $1.02 with Betfair after winning 14 of their opening 17 and moving to the top of the ladder.

Carlton, Geelong, Fremantle, Brisbane, Fremantle and Essendon are all battling to catch up with the Swans, but with the Blues boasting the shortest odds outside of Sydney at $26.00, the odds show that there is one big favourite in this market.

The major hope for most sides will be that the Swans may have hit a speedbump in their season. Two defeats in their last two games means they are now just eight clear of Carlton in second on the ladder.

While each team wants to be crowned minor premiers, few would truly care if they finished lower down on the ladder if it meant they then won in the Grand Final.

Collingwood displayed that it is possible to keep standards incredibly high all season by topping the ladder and winning in the Grand Final, but it is a challenge that is tough to complete.

With the new season heating up, the odds will likely change as players pick up injuries and teams strengthen. This simply means that you could find some value in certain picks if the bookies have not quite nailed evaluating a team's chances in the new season.

Which side do you think will finish at the top of the ladder in 2024? Can Collingwood do it all over again, or will another side top the ladder before turning their sights on the Grand Finals?
