The Crows host the Demons at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday night with both teams desperately needing a win.

Adelaide and Melbourne sit in the bottom four at the mid-way point of the season, but with the Demons currently possessing a game in hand all hope might not be lost for a finals berth.

Adelaide Form & Team News

Adelaide’ sit winless at the bottom of the ladder, three wins behind the 17th placed side in Sydney with a shocking percentage of 56.

They seemed to be improving when losing to the Saints by 23 points and the Bombers by three points, but they were humiliated last week by a team who sits in the bottom five themselves in North Melbourne.

On the selection front, it is expected that coach Matthew Nicks will swing the axe after a disappointing result. Elliot Himmelberg looks on shaky ground, as does Tyson Stengle.

Melbourne Form & Team News

Melbourne were predicted to bounce back into the finals after a disappointing 2019, but they have been terrible this season.

They sit in 15th place with only three wins from eight games and are coming off the back of one of their worst displays in the last 5 years last week when losing to Port Adelaide by 51 points.

Christian Petracca and Max Gawn have carried the Demons all season and have been brilliant in almost every game. Clayton Oliver, Jake Lever and Steven May have also carried the load for the Dees but too much has been left up to too few.

Expect Simon Goodwin to make wholesome changes this week with Tom McDonald and Angus Brayshaw likely the pair in the gun. Both men have been unable to recapture their stellar 2018 form.

Adelaide vs Melbourne Match Up

The battle of the two inside beasts for respective teams in Christian Petracca and Matt Crouch will go a long way to deciding this game.

Matt Crouch has been steady again in 2020, averaging 24.5 disposals a game and essentially carrying the Adelaide midfield Christian Petracca has went to a whole new level this season and has drawn comparisons to Tiger champion Dustin Martin.

He averages 24.3 disposals a game, similar to Matt Crouch, but where he stands out is the fact that he ranks 4th in total score involvements per game, 20th in Goal assists per game, and 9th in effective disposals per game this season.

If one of these two can really get on top of the other throughout the game, their teams look a strong chance of winning.
