Brisbane won the Battle of the M1 last weekend, dominating the Gold Coast 79-45 despite their horrendous accuracy on goal, kicking just 10 majors from 29 scoring shots. The Lions suffocated the Suns with 132-116 Contested Possessions and 238-174 Uncontested Possessions, forcing the Gold Coast to play a style of footy that just didn't work for them.
The win came at a cost though with the Lions losing Lincoln McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner to season-ending knee injuries in the match. Brisbane will now need to look to their young development players to lift in the final two-thirds of the season with Kai Lohman, Harry Sharp, Bruce Reville and Logan Morris getting thrown into more central roles in the team than they would have expected at the beginning of 2024.
